Test successes

Congratulations to the following BISC members who passed NISA synchro tests in December:
Amy Barnes, Charlotte Briddon, Stephanie Francis, Katherine Loades-Bannon, Rebecca Loades-Bannon, Susie Race, Alison Ryder, and Hayley Salmon all passed their novice and preliminary tests while Laura Hartley, who had already taken her novice test, passed her prelim test.

200 Club

The winners of the December 200 Club draw were Nicki Torrington and Gill Heap who won Christmas bonus prizes of £75 and £20. The venture raised £250 for the club's development fund in 2003. This is being shared between the club's established synchro teams and synchro development. Shares for the 2004 200 Club are now on sale at the club table on Wednesdays or by contacting Scott Waller (phone 01344 774839 or email newsdesk_scott@yahoo.co.uk). More than £1000 will be raised during this year if all the shares are sold.

Late changes

A system is being set up to alert patch and club ice users to late changes in ice availability. For £1, a skater can have their mobile phone number entered into a database at the rink. A pre-recorded text message stating “No Ice” will be sent should the situation arise.

Inter Club Event

BISC is to host an inter-club competition at the JNLC on May 9 to compensate for not taking part in this year's Southern Free Skating League. The skating clubs nearest to Bracknell (including Basingstoke, Guildford, Oxford and Slough) are being invited to take part in the event which will feature solo and pairs figure skating, ice dance and artistic classes. It is hoped those clubs taking part might host similar events.

Masterclass

The BISC committee has backed the idea of inviting a top skater to hold a masterclass for the benefit of club members. The event will be similar to the one held at Basingstoke last year with Robin Cousins and the two-day event planned at Basingstoke this year with Jayne Torvill. Watch this space for further details.

Summer Camp

The rink Academy plans to hold a summer camp at the JNLC during the week commencing July 26.

Coming...

Paula Dron has been co-opted to the BISC committee where she will be responsible for fundraising and organising social activities like visits to ice shows.

Going...

Simon Waller has resigned from the BISC committee after more than two years as a Junior Rep. He is now training during the week at the new Sheffield rink although Jon Bonny remains his coach.

Starspot

The popular Star Spot is to be reintroduced when time permits on club competition nights. It allows any club member to skate a programme of their choice in front of fellow club members and parents etc. One skater used to be allowed the ice every Wednesday and it proved very popular with those coming up to tests or Opens. A skating order will be drawn up by Sue Truby. See the club noticeboard for further details.

Have you paid?

Don't forget that anyone who skates on club ice on Wednesdays must pay at reception for each part of the session they skate on-ie, 6.15-6.45pm, 6.45-7.30pm and 7.30-8pm.

Tickets must be handed to the duty committee member at the gate before going on the ice at the start of each session.

Copies of BISC News with colour photographs are now available, priced £1. Members can still get black and white copies free as part of their membership.
