Happy Families

BISC may have set some kind of a record which could be hard to break!

Because of the timing of competitions this year, eight of the club's adult members competed, and won medals, in the same week as their children.

In fact the eight families notched up a total of 38 medals between them -nearly all for artistic classes.

The tally came about because the Bracknell Adult Open on June 23-24 was just two days before the club hosted the National Team Challenge, which included a show number for up to 30 skaters in which Bracknell came second as well as second in the overall event. There was also a synchronised skating class in which Bracknell came third.

And both these competitions coincided with the Guildford Open which is not usually held until July.

The club - which has nearly 300 members - has long been recognised as having a very large adult contingent. In fact nearly a third of its members are aged over 18 and about 50 of them skate, many of them having taken up the sport at the same time as their children.

But even the committee is surprised that so many families should have competed and won medals in the same week.

This is how they did it:

Bailey family - husband and wife, John & Lorraine, each won bronze in one of the two Bracknell group artistic entries in the Adult Open, while son James, 12, won silver in the NTC show number and silver for the overall competition.

Brenikov - Lesley won silver for free skating and bronze for group artistic in the Adult Open while daughter Anastasia, 16, won two silvers for the NTC show number and overall NTC.

Hester - Eunice won silver for a group artistic in the Adult Open while daughter Charlotte, 13, won two silver medals for the NTC show number and overall plus bronze with Bracknell's NTC synchronised skating team.

Jarvis - Rachel, who had to pull out of two events in the Adult Open because of an injured knee, still won bronze for free dance while daughters Bethany, 12, and Eleanor, 17, won silver for the NTC show number, silver overall for NTC plus bronze in the synchronised team.

Minchinton - Paul won silver in a group artistic in the Adult Open while daughters Anna, 16, and Claire, 13, won silver in the NTC show number and silver for overall NTC.

Torrington - Nicki won gold for free skating in the Adult Open plus silver for a group artistic while daughter Sophie, 10, won silver in a free skating class at the Guildford Open.

Truby - Sue won gold for dance variation in the Adult Open plus silver in a group artistic while daughter Jen, 16, and son David, 14, each won 2 silvers in the NTC show number and overall NTC.

Tudor - Gail won gold for free skating and bronze for improvisation and a group artistic in the Adult Open while daughter Seren, 13, won silver for NTC show number and overall NTC and bronze with the NTC synchronised team.
