b       Bracknell Ice Skating Club Email Newsflash August 2014

Hi everyone

Hard to believe that we should be thinking about the panto in the middle of the summer!  However chaperones are a necessity if children in year 11 and below are to take part as they need performance licences and these are only issued if we have the required number of chaperones for each show.

Those of you who are already licensed chaperones please check your licence to see if it is still valid for the show dates.  Those whose licences have now expired (like mine!) and adults who wish to be chaperones should start the application process now as it can take some time for the licences to come through.  An interview normally takes place with a council representative to confirm your identity and some visit homes.  Wokingham for example has a mandatory training session (evening) and so it is important to establish what is involved to allow sufficient time for the application to be processed.   Once completed many of the licences remain valid for three years depending on the issuing council (eg Bracknell, Wokingham, Windsor & Maidenhead) but other councils may only issue licences for 12 months or only for the actual performances in December.

The latest update is that the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) have merged to become the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).  CRB checks are now called DBS checks and these are applied for online.  Please see https://www.gov.uk/disclosure-barring-service-check/overview for further information about this service.

For voluntary chaperones to apply online for a DBS check you will need to contact your local council and request a chaperone licence application form and special log in details and password for the DBS website.  Voluntary chaperone applications do not have to pay the DBS fees that are required for fee earning chaperones which is why the special log in details and password are provided by the council.  There is likely to be a small charge by the council of £10 for the admin for your licence but this will be refunded.  (Please request a receipt from the council at the time of payment).

Most councils have websites with downloadable forms or contact email addresses which can be accessed via the links below.

Below are the website links/contacts for Bracknell Forest, Wokingham, Surrey, Surrey Heath, Windsor and Maidenhead, Reading, Slough,  Hampshire, Richmond, Buckinghamshire, West Berkshire, and Oxfordshire County Council.

Please don't delay - the children need you!

Any queries please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards
