Successes for BISC Adults
May and
June have been a very busy time for some of our adult skaters with two major
competitions taking place.
At the
end of May, the ISU Adult International Competition took place in Oberstdorf.
This year was the tenth anniversary and saw the largest number of competitors to
date with almost 500 skaters from all over the world competing in singles,
artistic, dance and synchronised skating events. The competition is always run
like clockwork, with an amazing team of volunteers who work tirelessly from the
first official practice at 6.00 am until the daily victory ceremony that often
didn’t commence until nearly 11.00 pm every night for the duration of the event.
This year the event ran from Monday until early Saturday evening, starting on
the Sunday evening with the opening ceremony and ending on the Saturday with the
closing banquet where skaters celebrated their successes amongst the company of
their international friends and fellow team mates.
The GB
team has grown each year, and in May a total of 59 skaters from Great Britain
took part and all supported one another with loud cheers, lots of cow bell
ringing and a load of support warming each other up and acting as “coach” for
one another.
Bracknell club members who took part in this event were Lesley Brenikov, Nicki
Torrington and Monica Brown. All three ladies entered singles and artistic
events.
Monica
skated a beautiful artistic program to “Amazing Grace” as a tribute to her late
sister who skated to this two years ago in Oberstdorf, and she placed 3rd
out of 6 skaters in the Gold Ladies III+IV class. She then skated a clean
free program to place 2nd out of 5 in the Gold Ladies III class.
Nicki
and Lesley skated in Ladies Bronze II and III respectively in both artistic and
free classes and were both happy with their performances.
Results
for Oberstdorf are:-
Monica – 2nd of
5 in Gold Ladies III Free Skating; 3rd of 6 in Gold Ladies III+IV
Artistic
Nicki – 17th of

In June, the British Adult
Championships took place in Sheffield running over three days and included solo
and couples dance, free skating, artistic and exhibition classes. Four adult
members competed with more medals being won.
First to medal was Nicki
Torrington who skated a clean free dance at Bronze level and secured second
place in a class of six skaters. Next to win a podium place was David Lisk who
came 3rd out of 4 in the Mens Singles class at Silver level. Nicki
Torrington, Lesley Brenikov and Claire Mulvenna all competed in the Ladies
Singles class at Bronze level. Nicki and Lesley also competed in the Artistic
event but with this class being open to all abilities it was more of a chance to
have a fun run-through than any hopes of placing high, especially since we were
competing alongside former British champion, Zoe Wood!
