Bracknell Ice Skating Club Email Newsflash - April 2015
We are worryingly short of helpers particularly on the Thursday and Friday and
have gaps on
all days. We need people early morning as well as late
afternoon so if you think you can spare a few hours please email me as soon as
possible on

Registration
desk (includes music collection, programme sales, trophy returns, video log and
pdf distribution - needs two people) This
role is rink side with the desk open at least 15 minutes before start of
skating. All competitors are expected to register at the reception
desk where they hand in their music. Skaters names are checked off and the
music collected by class order and then taken to AV room in time for the
competition and collected afterwards to be returned to skaters. Programmes
are also sold at registration desk and parents who wish to video their own child
must register and sign form. Once the results are signed off by the judges
then competitors can collect a pdf of their marks from the registration desk.
Opportunity to watch some great skating and ideal if you like meeting, greeting
and organising!
Gate Stewards –
needs two people
This
role is rink side and requires two people to check off competitors names, ensure
they are ready to skate in the next class and that they get on and off the ice
at the correct time. If a skater is missing then the referee needs to be
informed – radio is provided to communicate with the officials.
Opportunity to watch some great skating, chat to skaters and be supportive in
their hour of need!
Hospitality/Runner – needs two people
This role requires a constant check of the hospitality provision for the IJS
officials and judging. Ensure that the refreshments situated rink side are
topped up, the judges’ table and service station are set up and cleared before
and after breaks and that the refreshments for the helpers are maintained and
replenished. Collection of signed results sheets from rink side officials,
photocopying and distribution to notice board, judges’ board and registration
desk. Ad hoc photocopying of signage, programmes and other
paperwork. Collecting returned trophies from registration desk, updating
presentation tables and checking of silverware. Based in hospitality with
view of rink, ideal role for those training for a marathon, like office duties
and making tea!
Timekeeper –
required by referee to time (stopwatch provided) each competitor’s programme
length (not needed for pattern dances).
Best view in the rink for watching skating – sitting with the judges and getting
some tips!
Videographer –
requirement for International Judging System - to video each competitor as they
skate in order for the footage to be replayed for officials and assessment
No need to be
afraid - just point the camera and follow the skater! Free tea and
biscuits!
