b       Bracknell Ice Skating Club Email Newsflash - April 2015

We are worryingly short of helpers particularly on the Thursday and Friday and have gaps on all days.  We need people early morning as well as late afternoon so if you think you can spare a few hours please email me as soon as possible on Lesley.brenikov@btconnect.com  Revised timetables are attached.

Registration desk (includes music collection, programme sales, trophy returns, video log and pdf distribution - needs two people)  This role is rink side with the desk open at least 15 minutes before start of skating.   All competitors are expected to register at the reception desk where they hand in their music.  Skaters names are checked off and the music collected by class order and then taken to AV room in time for the competition and collected afterwards to be returned to skaters.  Programmes are also sold at registration desk and parents who wish to video their own child must register and sign form.  Once the results are signed off by the judges then competitors can collect a pdf of their marks from the registration desk.  Opportunity to watch some great skating and ideal if you like meeting, greeting and organising!

Gate Stewards – needs two people   This role is rink side and requires two people to check off competitors names, ensure they are ready to skate in the next class and that they get on and off the ice at the correct time.  If a skater is missing then the referee needs to be informed – radio is provided to communicate with the officials.  Opportunity to watch some great skating, chat to skaters and be supportive in their hour of need!

Hospitality/Runner – needs two people    This role requires a constant check of the hospitality provision for the IJS officials and judging.  Ensure that the refreshments situated rink side are topped up, the judges’ table and service station are set up and cleared before and after breaks and that the refreshments for the helpers are maintained and replenished.  Collection of signed results sheets from rink side officials, photocopying and distribution to notice board, judges’ board and registration desk.   Ad hoc photocopying of signage, programmes and other paperwork.  Collecting returned trophies from registration desk, updating presentation tables and checking of silverware.  Based in hospitality with view of rink, ideal role for those training for a marathon, like office duties and making tea!

Timekeeper – required by referee to time (stopwatch provided) each competitor’s programme length (not needed for pattern dances).  Best view in the rink for watching skating – sitting with the judges and getting some tips!

Videographer – requirement for International Judging System - to video each competitor as they skate in order for the footage to be replayed for officials and assessment  No need to be afraid - just point the camera and follow the skater!  Free tea and biscuits!
