Test successes

The club congratulates Simon Waller on passing the second part (long programme) of his Junior Competitive free skating test at Swindon on April 1. This will qualify him for the British Junior Men’s Championship.

We apologise sincerely to Rhiannon Bailey for leaving her out of the previous list of test successes. She passed her novice field moves at Bracknell on February 9.

200 Club

The winners of the March 200 Club draw were Sally King and Mike Cross who won prizes of £28 and £7. The more shares sold, the higher the prizes and the more money raised for the club. Shares are on sale at the club table on Wednesdays or by contacting Scott Waller.

Quiet please

Parents and guardians are reminded that they are responsible for the off-ice behaviour of any children they bring to the rink.

Patch ice in particular, and club ice, are times when skaters should be concentrating hard on what they are doing. They should not be distracted by noise from siblings and friends who may have come to the rink with them but who spend their time racing round at rinkside and upstairs, often shouting and banging seats as well.

These antics often distract skaters and cause them to lose their concentration which can easily result in accidents on the ice. It is particularly imperative that there should be calm and quiet, without any distractions from movement off the ice, during competitions and, of course, tests where loss of concentration can result in loss of marks.

We don’t want our rink to become like many others where parents and other visitors are banned from rinkside during patch and club ice so please help ensure that the atmosphere within the rink is what it should be!

(Nearly) All Change

Having reviewed the use of club ice on Friday evenings, the committee has decided that the 5.15-5.45pm session will be used as patch ice on all but the first Friday of the month when it will be used for synchro development. Members will be allowed individual lessons with their coaches on all the other Fridays. The changes take effect on April 16.

Don’t forget that even though the club holds its annual Open from April 19-23, there will be club ice as usual on the Wednesday evening (April 21).

Warming Up

The room behind the AV room is to be made available for warming up for competitors in the Bracknell Open. Skaters under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Patch ice during the competition week will start at 5am each morning and continue until 6.30am on the Monday, 7am on the Tuesday and Wednesday, and 8am on the Thursday and Friday.

Watch and Learn

The club’s collection of ISU videos and DVDs, designed to help skaters to improve their elements, is proving very popular.

For a £5 deposit for each video or DVD, they can be borrowed free of charge for a week from the club table on Wednesdays although there may be a waiting list.

The titles are: How to Spin; How to Jump – axel, salchow, and loop; How to Jump – flip, toe loop, lutz; and Pairs. Each has sections about each jump/spin including history, technique, errors, corrections and skaters comments.

Have you paid?

Don't forget that anyone who skates on club ice on Wednesdays must pay at reception for each part of the session they skate on-ie, 6.15-6.45pm, 6.45-7.30pm and 7.30-8pm.

Tickets must be handed to the duty committee member at the gate before going on the ice at the start of each session.

Copies of BISC News with colour photographs are now available, priced £1. Members can still get black and white copies free as part of their membership.
