Passports
Anyone successfully completing a level of the NISA Passport, whether
bronze, silver or gold, is asked to let Scott Waller know so that
their ach-ievement can be recorded here and so the BISC test chart
and club membership details can be updated. See foot of page for
details on contacting Scott.
Meanwhile congratulations to Chloe Sharpe and
Patrick Sharpe on completing their bronze, silver
and gold Passport levels.
Synchro Latest
The club’s synchro section is to concentrate on building for the
future in the coming season by fielding a junior team and
development team.
It has dropped the idea of running novice and juvenile teams
alongside the new junior team because rules prohibit having more
than 50% of the same skaters in two teams. It means the new junior
team - to be made up of last season’s novice team plus four more
members - will be very young but it is hoped it will go on to
provide a strong team for the future. The synchro development team
will work alongside the junior team each week and will compete in a
new inter-club competition.
Team manager Sacha Hartley and the coaches have praised the positive
attitude of the skaters and the abundant team spirit they have
already shown.
* Janice Cross has replaced Mike Cross as synchro treasurer.
Ice use changes
Due to rehearsals for the National Team Challenge show number and
the gala plus practice sessions for members competing in the
Bracknell Adult Open and the British Solo Ice Dance Championships,
the subsidised group dance lessons from 5.45-6.45pm on Wednesdays
have moved to Thursdays until the end of July. During this period
there will be group lessons in both free and dance from 5-5.30pm and
5.30-6pm. All skaters may attend either or both.
.
The only exceptions will be weeks commencing May 8 when the NTC
rehearsals will be held from 5-6pm on the Thursday and week
commencing June 19 when rehearsals will be held on the Wednesday and
Thursday.
The NTC final - the country’s biggest inter-club competition - is at
Bracknell on Sunday, June 25, and the gala is on Friday, September
22. Both events are open to the public - there is no admission
charge - and it would be lovely if all club members showed their
support for BISC by attending and cheering on the Bracknell team.
Junior rep still sought
The BISC committee is still seeking a Junior Representative to serve
as a liaison between the club’s younger members and the committee
which meets at 7pm on a weekday about once every six weeks. Anyone
aged up to 18 who might be interested should have a word with club
chair Roy Welham on 01344 883286.
Training camp
The rink will be holding a free and dance training camp on July
26-28 with two hours on-ice and one hour off-ice each morning. The
cost is £45.
Photography upset
Event organisers were upset when a second “official” photographer
turned up for the first day of the Bracknell Open. He said he had
been sanctioned by NISA but he was unknown to BISC which had already
booked someone it knew it could trust, would provide a reliable
service and adhere to child protection policies.
Even referee Noel Grimshaw knew nothing about it. He has already
complained to NISA and BISC will be too.
Parents should consider whether they are happy for this man (or
others like him) to turn up unannounced, with no ID, to take
pictures of their children without their permission. If they don't
like this idea then they should complain to Keith Horton at NISA.
