Patch Rules & Etiquette

When skating on patch there are some general rules that skaters and coaches are expected to follow.

- Socialising should be carried out off ice not during patch.
- Skaters that fall should get up as soon as they can and not lay on the ice.
- Coaches and skaters are to be courteous to each other.
- All coaches are responsible for the safety of their pupils in a lesson.
- Skaters using patch are responsible for themselves.
- Skaters in a lesson on the music have right of way provided it is safe to do so.
- Skaters in a lesson can have up to three full run throughs of their music per 30 minutes where they have
right of way. After those 3 goes no more right of way will be given.- Yellow bands MUST be worn for those in a lesson on the music and only for three goes.
- Only coaches on the music are allowed to stand in the right-hand sin bin AV side.
- Coaches and skaters are not to stand around the sin bin area AV side as this causes congestion.
- Parents/Spectators are not to sit in any of the sin bins or players boxes. Please sit behind the glass.
- Please do not stop and restart music as there are others waiting to use the music.
- For safety, please practise spins responsibly and not in the flow of traffic.
- Tuesday and Thursday afternoon patches are designed for low level skaters of skate UK level 8, high level
skaters of Advanced Novice/NISA level 8 and over can use this patch, but, should be aware of lower levels
on these sessions. If deemed intimidating or impacting on the lower level skaters, they may be asked to
leave the ice.- High level skaters of Advanced Novice/NISA level 8 and over that are in a lesson will be allowed to run their
programmes on Tuesday and Thursday evening patch but only from 3.45pm – 4.15pm and no later.- Coaches should locate themselves around the perimeter of the ice unless carrying out specific coaching tasks
such as choreography or demonstrating.- There will be NO poor behaviour for example kicking the ice or foul language.
- Skaters in a lesson on the music with right of way are allowed to call out in a polite manner (NO SHOUTING)
if their path is blocked.- Coaches are NOT permitted to shout except for extenuating circumstances.
- Group lessons are only to be run with a maximum of 4 skaters per coach no larger groups in conjunction with
multiple coaches are permitted on patch.- Please wear suitable attire when skating i.e. sportswear. Denim is not permitted, and hair must be tied back.
- Mobile phones should only be used as a training aid or in case of an emergency.
- If any skater or coach does not adhere to these rules they will be asked to leave the ice by the Head Coach.
- The Head Coach will have the final decision on any matter relating to patch.
